Brightening Up Dark Circles

Covering Dark Circles | Beauty Tips by Viva Grace Makeup | New Mexico Makeup Artist

So let’s get this straight. Dark circles are annoying, but we all have them at some point. Whether they are from a long night of working, staying up with a baby, or staying out a little too late on a week night. You wake up in the morning, play your favorite AM jams, get your groove on, look in the mirror and there they are. Gloomy and tired. I recently became a morning person (finally lol) and I try my best to start my day far away from anything gloomy so I can continue having a fun and energetic day. Yet, I see them almost every morning. I am unfortunately at a stage in my life where I can sleep a solid eight hours and still look like I haven’t slept in a long 36 hours. Anyone else have this issue? I feel you, girl!

I have tried so many ways to try and cover them up. I used the fairest concealer I could find (porcelain) because you know the opposite of black is white so why wouldn’t that work right? I look back at pictures and I’m like “yikes!!”. I look like I have big GREY bags under my eyes. Um, grey is probs worse than regular old dark circles. Sorry girl, but I have to keep it real, it’s not cute. I tried using a heavy duty concealer (that is closer to my actual shade) on top of my foundation. Worked a little better, but then I had big cake-y, creases under my eyes half way into my day. No thanks, Tom Hanks. I needed to figure this out! I kept looking more and more like Dracula every time I saw myself in the mirror.

I finally made my way to color correcting

I have aways used a green color corrector to help with my rosy cheeks and my surprisingly red chin, but I hadn’t yet dabbled with yellows and oranges. GAME CHANGER! I first started with a creamy orange color (ELF Color Correcting stick) but I kept feeling like my face looked too orange… BUT it was hiding my circles pretty well. So I tried it again in the yellow color because I am pretty fair skinned and have almost a yellowish undertone to begin with. I tried L'oreal True Match Color correcting crayon and I am obsessed. It is such a creamy consistency and SO easy to blend. I just swipe it once under each eye and usually blend it out with my finger. Sometimes, I can leave the house with ONLY THAT on my face! I look so bright and well rested. It’s amazing! I also would suggest to not use too heavy of a concealer on top because you already corrected what you needed to, and all you need is to probably match it with your foundation on your skin tone and set it lightly with powder! BOOM! No more dark circles. I keep a beauty blender with me in my “purse makeup bag” and I occasionally have to just dab lightly under my eyes because it can slightly crease depending on how much product you use. Just remember a little bit can go a long way!

So if you are someone who is suffering from those pesky dark circles, try using an orange or yellow color corrector. These are some pretty affordable drugstore brands so it won’t put too much a dent into your budget to find the right match for you. ELF also has a color correcting palette for around $4 that includes green, yellow, peachy/orange, and a light blue. Play around with it! Find what works for you! Every face is different so have fun with it and stay true to you!

That’s the beauty of makeup.

XOXO,

Juliette
